Remi Lagos, real name, Oluremi Dorcas Oshokale was a fashion designer, born 1961 to actress mother and a urbane father with whom she enjoyed frequent Sunday visits to the beach as a child. Her secondary education at Bariga Girls Secondary Grammar was followed by an A’ levels course at Bexhill on Sea school, in the UK where she had spent most of her infant years. After this she attended the Chelsea College of Arts and Design where she majored in Textile design.

Remi Lagos returned to Nigeria to join its sprouting fashion industry with her Freaky designs label in 1986 in Surulere neighbourhood where she had had her primary school education. Shortly after, she rebranded to Remi, with a logo bearing her business location, “Lagos”. Within a few years, the business had multiple locations across the country and partnerships in other countries. Her works were also showcased at international fashion events in Johannesburg, Accra, and London. Remi’s eccentricity was her exclusively black wardrobe, and she lived her distinctive life, terminated by uterine cancer in November 2012.
