Government College Ibadan was founded in 1929 by Selwyn McGregor Grier and V.B.V. Powell. The school had, after some uncertainty, settled in its first site; Apata Ganga in Ibadan. Government College has a rich history in Cricket. From its performance at competitive examinations in the years after Nigeria’s independence, the school had achieved renown. Like many other schools of its class, this secondary school was taken over by the Government in 1979 and the momentum of development had since been reduced. Some former students of the school had decried the action, praying the Oyo state government to allow them play a part in school management through a Public-Private Partnership initiative. Government College Ibadan is a boy’s only school located in Ibadan-Abeokuta Rd, Ibadan.
