Adesanya Afolabi

Adesanya Afolabi; Filmmaker and critic. In 2005, Adesanya Afolabi was appointed Managing Director of Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC). Adesanya Afolabi was born on July 5,1959 in the ancient Kano, Nigeria, to David Akinsanya Adesanya and Chief (Mrs) Aurora Omowasola Adesanya (nee Epega). He had his primary school education at Holy Trinity (Anglican) Primary School, Sabon-Gari, Kano; secondary school education at Osogbo Grammar School (Osograms), where he partook in several Quiz Competitions on behalf of his school. Higher School Education (HSC) for him was at Federal Government College (FGC), Malali, Kaduna where he served as Senior Prefect for the 1977/78 Academic Session. Adesanya is married to Adeyinka (nee Aderibigbe), a Biochemist.

Adesanya graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute, California, USA, with extensive working experience as film/art critic, photojournalist, filmmaker and television director. Afolabi joined the NTA  headeat the time by the veteran broadcaster, Mike Enahoro. He worked briefly at an advertising agency, Ikeja, before he was invited by poet Femi Osofisan to The Guardian as a staff-writer/photojournalist from 1983 – 84. Adesanya was a Resource Person at the National Film Institute, Jos, and ITPAN Training School, Lagos for many years. He has attended, and covered such film festivals as San Francisco Inter-national Film Festival (1978 – 80), FESPACO and IMAGESD’AILLEURS (his film OSE SANGO, was shown at the UNESCO Centre) [i].
